A great family photography session comes down to a little preparation. Here's what I recommend to my Massachusetts clients before their session, so everyone feels comfortable and the photos feel like you.
Coordinate, don't match
Choose a color palette instead of identical outfits. Soft neutrals, muted tones, or a shared color family photograph beautifully together without looking too matchy. Try to avoid busy patterns or large logos that pull focus from your faces.
Plan around nap times and moods
For families with young kids, I recommend scheduling your session during the time of day your child is usually happiest, whether that's mid-morning or right after a nap. A well-rested, fed child makes for a much more relaxed session for everyone involved.
Pick a location that feels like you
Whether it's a favorite park, the beach, or the comfort of your own home, choosing a location with meaning makes the photos feel more personal. I'm happy to help you pick a spot that fits your family and the season, wherever you are in Massachusetts.
Let the little moments happen
Some of my favorite images come from the in-between moments, a laugh, a hug, a piggyback ride, rather than posed smiles. Give yourselves permission to be a little silly and just connect with each other, and I'll capture the rest.
I photograph families throughout Massachusetts, from Brockton to the greater Boston area, and I'd love to help you create images you'll treasure for years to come. Reach out through my contact page to book your session.
